Sura 26 Ash-Shu'ara' (The Poets)

1. إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ

   Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

   26:121

2. وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ

   And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

   26:122

3. كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

   'Aad denied the messengers

   26:123

4. إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

   When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?

   26:124

5. إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

   Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

   26:125

6. فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

   So fear Allah and obey me.

   26:126

7. وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

   And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

   26:127

8. أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ آيَةً تَعْبَثُونَ

   Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves,

   26:128

9. وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ

   And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally?

   26:129

10. وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُمْ بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ

    And when you strike, you strike as tyrants.

    26:130

11. فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

    So fear Allah and obey me.

    26:131

12. وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي أَمَدَّكُمْ بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ

    And fear He who provided you with that which you know,

    26:132

13. أَمَدَّكُمْ بِأَنْعَامٍ وَبَنِينَ

    Provided you with grazing livestock and children

    26:133

14. وَجَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

    And gardens and springs.

    26:134

15. إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

    Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day."

    26:135

16. قَالُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْنَا أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُنْ مِنَ الْوَاعِظِينَ

    They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors.

    26:136

17. إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

    This is not but the custom of the former peoples,

    26:137

18. وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

    And we are not to be punished."

    26:138

19. فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ

    And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

    26:139

20. وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ

    And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

    26:140
